As a writer it’s always fun to welcome a new member to our tribe. So I am very excited this week to introduce you to my lovely friend, Leilani Dallas. A middle school teacher in the public school system, Leilani is also a single mom to a beautiful little girl, is devoted to her Cross Fit workouts, leads a group of single women at her church and is passionately in love with Jesus.
Because Fall is my favorite of all seasons, I was especially drawn to this post and asked her if I could share it with you. She calls it “Trust the Process” and in this piece draws life lessons for us all, especially those of you who may be patiently (or impatiently) waiting for fulfillment of a desire or a dream.
You can follow Leilani at thebeautyintheashes.com and sign up to be on her subscriber list there. In the weeks ahead she will be dealing with some of the tough topics of singleness in today’s world, raising a child alone and having steadfast determination to only settle for God’s best for your life. I know you will find encouragement and strength from this fellow traveler who “has her eyes set on the prize of the high calling of God in her life”(Philippians 3:14).
Ecclesiastes 3:1 “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
Fall is an incredibly beautiful season! It is marked by a remarkable display of leaves turning various shades of yellow, orange, and red. As my sweet pea and I were out and about one day, we stopped to look at a beautiful tree adorned with a lush supply of bright red leaves. She was enamored by the beautiful display and asked to pick a few of the leaves to take with us. While she carefully made her selections, I began to think about the process that causes this change.
I am not going to get too scientific on you, but I need to go there in order to land this plane…please trek with me. Naturally, all leaves have red, orange, and yellow pigments. As fall begins, leaves develop a seal at the juncture where the leaf meets the branch. In turn, the supply of chlorophyll to the leaves becomes restricted, causing the existing chlorophyll in the leaf to break down. This allows those pigments packed inside the leaves to make their spectacular debut, producing the magnificent array of colors that leave us awestruck.
The more I thought about this, the more I stood amazed at the fact that all of these beautiful colors exist in the leaves the entire year…throughout the spring and summer, they are tucked away, waiting for their season. Everything that is needed for that beautiful production is there, just waiting for the catalyst that will usher in a process necessary for the changes to occur.
Then I thought about how that seems a lot like us…we have all of these beautiful things God has put inside of us. Everything that He has given us is put on full display in the proper season. There may be things in you that you do not even know you possess. There may be things inside of you that you do not feel are a gift or are valuable in any way. Let me assure you that everything that God creates is mesmerizing! We just have to learn to embrace the process, and trust that, just like the leaves, all of the things that are inside of us will become a beautiful display in their appropriate season.
